The BEST Morning Smoothie

I started my routine of drinking green smoothies every morning during 2017. I wanted to get more greens and superfoods into my diet, but I did’t feel like eating 3 salads a day. So I figured if I could throw everything I need into a blender and make it taste somewhat pleasant, than would be a sure way to get those micro nutrients in.
Now, I love drinking this smoothie in the morning. Especially after my workouts, I find that this drink is exactly what I need to get me through the day. Getting in tons of fruits and vegetables early in the AM is, hands down, the best way to start your day. This way if I don’t have the healthiest day of eating, at least I know I got in my morning smoothie! I am going to run through the basic recipe that I always do and then I’ll go into each supplement I use and why I love it.

The Basic Formula Includes:

1/2 frozen banana
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1 cup almond milk
1-2 cups Spinach

My Favorite Additives


Cinnamon is a great thing to add to your smoothies especially if you are using bananas. Bananas have a high sugar content that can send your blood sugar levels through the roof. This will result in you crashing a few hours after you drink your smoothies. Cinnamon helps prevent this from happening while also boosting your metabolism. I add this to virtually all my smoothies!

Collagen Peptides:

This protein power is seriously my FAVORITE supplement. Not only does it have protein but it also helps your hair, skin and nails stay strong and healthy. Another one of my favorite things about this product is that it is flavorless. If you have ever had the experience of putting protein powder in a smoothie and finding that it ruined the drink entirely, than you NEED to try this! I used to always add protein powders with artificial flavors and found that they tasted fake and sugary. I missed just having the flavors of the fruit in my smoothies, but I didn’t want to miss out on protein. With collagen peptides I am able to have the best of both worlds!

Chia Seeds:

These little seeds are packed with tons of amazing benefits for our bodies. They provide omega 3 fatty acids, fiber, protein, calcium and loads of antioxidants. I recommend mixing in a tablespoon of chia seeds AFTER you blend your smoothie. This way your body is able to better retain water and electrolytes, keeping you hydrated longer. Allowing your chia to soak in the smoothie also aids in digestion!

Maca Powder:

This powder helps regulate your hormones. I have found this to be extremely helpful around my time of the month. It helps with mood, cramps and hormonal breakouts. It has quite a unique, strong flavor, but once you add it to your smoothie, I promise you won’t be able to taste it. I usually only add a teaspoon of this for an extra kick!

Green Superfood Powder:

I love adding green powders to my smoothies! These are powders that combine all the greens you need in one easy scoop. My favorite powder is by Amazing Grass. They have tons of different varieties depending on your needs. The flavor is mild and tastes kind of like matcha green tea. I absolutely love this product and highly recommend it.

Cacao Powder:

Aside from its amazing chocolate taste, cacao powder is filled with tons of nutrients. It has more calcium than cow’s milk, more antioxidants than blueberries, tons of iron and healthy magnesium. I simply add this because it makes my smoothie taste like a chocolate peanut butter milkshake, but the benefits make a huge difference too!


I’ve made this smoothie almost every morning since September. I have noticed a HUGE difference in my skin, body and overall energy levels throughout the day. I know people can be scared of green things, but this seriously tastes like a milkshake and I never get sick of it! Give it a try and let me know what you think!
