Let’s talk BBQ. Last time I ate BBQ I was in Nashville, Tennessee and I was highly disappointed. On a recent visit to Charlottesville, Virginia I ate, what might be, the best BBQ I have ever had. Yes, I said it. I’m talking about Smoked in Charlottesville, Virginia. I got pulled pork with jalapeño creamed corn, sweet potato and cornbread. The meal started with a sample of cornbread hushpuppies with a spicy honey butter. After I ate these amazing fried bread balls, I realized that Smoked was the real deal. The perfectly cooked mini sweet potato came with butter and cinnamon sugar. When I first saw it, I laughed because the potato was so small. But, as I continued the BBQ feast I was grateful that it was so small because I found myself slipping into a food coma fast. The pork was so flavorful and tender with crispy smoked skin. The table had an array of 6 sauces which all were delicious in their own way and complimented the pork nicely. Now let’s talk about this jalapeño creamed corn. It was the best corn adaption I have ever had. It was smoky and spicy, but also had an amazing sweetness from the corn to balance it. There was no crab in this dish, but the best way I can describe the flavor was that it tasted like corn crab chowder. I was very excited about this meal and will be adding it to my list of favorite restaurants. This one is a must try.
